Investigation Gettysburg First Main

Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg PA March 2011

Paranormal Claims:
Paranormal claims are rampant in the military park, as well as the entire surrounding area. Gettysburg itself has become a mecca for ghost hunters and history buffs alike. Reports are numerous, and include everything from capturing evp's to full body apparitions. Some say the activity here is so strong because of the great trauma that enveloped this town in such a short period of time. Others believe it has to do with the fact that the history itself has been kept alive here.
History:
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought over a 3 day period between July 13, 1863. The battle took place in and around the town itself, and had the largest number of casualties in the Civil War. It is often described as the war's turning point. Between 48,000 and 52,000 soldiers from both armies were casualties in this three-day battle alone. That November, President Lincoln used the dedication ceremony for the Gettysburg National Cemetery to honor the fallen Union soldiers and redefine the purpose of the war in his historic Gettysburg Address.

We concentrated this investigation on the site of The Farnsworth Calvary Charge. The charge itself was responsible for heavy losses on both the Union and Confederate sides. Farnsworth himself was shot five times in the chest. An account by Confederate Colonel William C. Oates claimed that Farnsworth was surrounded by Confederate soldiers and committed suicide to avoid capture. This, however, has been disputed by other witnesses and discounted by most historians over the years.
Investigation:
We returned to this site after having caught an evp and some interesting equipment malfunction during our investigation of the park last year. This time around we engaged a vast array of equipment with some remarkable results. Amazingly, our video camera picked up what can only be described as gunshots and canon fire along with the sound of men shouting in the distance. While this is occurring, you can hear two of our investigators ending an evp session and monitoring the Mel Meter REM. It quite obvious that we never heard these sounds. We often employ the use of music to elicit a response and have had great success with this in the past. Today would be no different. During this investigation, we experimented by playing period music that would appeal to both the Union and Confederate sides. While the investigation wore on, we caught some intelligent, even interactive evps. Things continued to be quite active as we were able to document varying levels of emf from 0.1 to 0.4, as well as battery drain. When we were getting ready to leave our Mel-8704-R* went off not once, but twice. At this point, we made a decision to return the following day to investigate further. When we reviewed the evidence, we were excited to see that not only did we catch a small light anomaly. We also caught an anomaly that appears to pass by the meter right after it is triggered for the second time.

The following day we returned and decided to experiment with the SB-7. The most compelling piece of evidence captured was my name (Sandra) being said quite clearly on the battlefield. We have included some other responses on the clip, but sadly, we were unable to duplicate the same level of activity we encountered just the day before.

* On this particular version of the Mel Meter there are four lights at the top of the unit as well as a audible tone which will only go off if the EM field is disturbed. The field extends several inches from the antenna.
* Please see our equipment page for more information.

Conclusion:
Needless to say; this area appears to be highly active. We feel there are definitely multiple intelligent spirits at play here, as well as, your typical residual haunting. I wonder if they look forward to such interaction with the human element. At any rate, these souls must be treated with the utmost care and respect. This is a sacred site and should be treated as such. Intention is everything.

Comment/Question
What day of the month is it?
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection
against the wickedness
and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince
of the Heavenly Host
by the Power of God-
cast into hell,
satan and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruins of souls
Amen.
